CASER SUES AIG JOSEPH MBU IN PRESERVATION OF THE RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION AND FREE PRESS TOGETHER WITH THE RIGHT TO HOLD OPINIONS ABOUT ANYONE .
CASER-Citizens’ Advocacy for Social & Economic Rights has sued AIG Joseph Mbu, the Police Service Commission and the Inspector General of Police for violating Amaechi Anakwue’s fundamental right to freedom of expression and the press together with the right to hold opinion about anyone and on any matter.
Amaechi Anakwue, a senior correspondent with the Africa Independent Television (AIT) was unjustly arrested, detained and charged to court on the orders of AIG Mbu, for simply referring to him as controversial.
Find attached a copy of the Court Process that was filed by CASER on the 9th of October, 2014.The suit shall be fixed for hearing at the FCT High Court within 7 days from the date of filing.
We write to solicit your support and solidarity in the face of this implicit and complicit resolve by certain authorities to intimidate and frighten Nigerian journalists and, consequently deny Nigerian citizens of the social right to receive information that is true, fair and free from fear.
Thank you
